Safeguarding Policy

 

 

This safeguarding policy clearly states the procedures that Steph’s Tutoring (Stephanie Sybliss); will follow to keep all students safe and how we will respond to any safeguarding concerns.

 

Purpose and Scope

 

 

The purpose of our safeguarding policy at Steph’s Tutoring is:

  • to protect the student/children and young people/learner who receive tutoring services from Steph’s Tutoring/Stephanie Sybliss from any harm; both physically or mentally.

  • to respond to any allegations and/or any concerns relating to the welfare of students/child or young person/Learners for whom tutoring services is provided to.

  • to make clear the ongoing training Steph’s Tutoring/Stephanie Sybliss will undertake to ensure that safeguarding protocols are up-to-date and understood by all.

 

This policy will be reviewed and updated on an annual basis; or before if there is a change in safeguarding protocols.

 

 

Responsibilities

 

 

At Steph’s Tutoring, we have a responsibility for the safety and well-being of our students while they are in our care; whether they partake in face-to-face, online or group tutoring with us.

 

This responsibility includes:

  • Ensuring we have had and possess a current enhanced Disclosure and Baring Service (DBS) certificate. Please note that as an independent tutor; a third party will carry out a DBS check on an annual basis.

  • Ensuring that we undertake appropriate safeguarding training at least once every two years.

  • To always strive to keep up-to-date with any new information regarding safeguarding and child protection and updating this policy accordingly to include any relevant changes. To report safeguarding concerns correctly and follow the correct procedures when contacting relevant bodies such as; the Sutton Local Children Partnership*, or Sutton Council*: Report a concern about a child. Reporting safeguarding concerns

 

 

If a child/young person/student/learner tells the tutor (Stephanie Sybliss) that they are being abused or that the tutor (Stephanie Sybliss) suspects that there are safeguarding concerns with regards to a child/young person/student/learner who is being tutored; the tutor (Stephanie Sybliss) will:

 

  • Confirmation that we have heard what they are saying and that we will take their allegations seriously.

  • Encourage the child/young person/student/learner to talk, without prompting them or asking them leading questions. We will not interrupt them.

  • Reassure them that they can tell us anything that is worrying them, but that we cannot promise not to tell anybody because some things have to be passed on in order to keep them safe.

  • Explain the actions we must take, in a way that is appropriate to the age and understanding of the child/young person/student/learner.

  • Record (write down) what we have been told, as soon as we can, using exact words where possible.

  • Record (write down) and make a note of the date, time, place and people who were present during the disclosure.

  • We will make sure we have contacted the Safeguarding Lead as soon as possible and the relevant Local Authority. If we are concerned that the child is in immediate danger; we will also call the police.

 

 

 

Note: It will not be the responsibility of the tutor (Stephanie Sybliss) to attempt to investigate the situation after they have passed on the relevant information to the relevant authorities. This will be left to the relevant authorities; or the police.
